Technology has quickly become an important resource for teachers and students to enhance learning. There are many schools like my own, whose students have one to one devices for them to use everyday at school. Science is a subject that can be very difficult to use technology in because of inquiry-based learning. It is my thought that students should be working hands on with the materials and concepts that they are learning in science. Technology can help science teachers and students though when there are no materials available. There are many ways that technology can be integrated in science. According to DeRosa & Abruscato (2015) students can create science web quests, asks a scientist a question, and virtual simulations. I have seen first hand how awesome simulations are and how they truly help students understand the concepts that are being taught.

Lab safety is an important concept that students must understand before they are able to complete any investigations or experiments. Students should be made aware of the rules of labs, and what they should do in case of an emergency that may occur from the lab. There are a lot of different scenarios that could occur when a lab is in place, so students need to be made aware of what to do if something does occur. Also, students should know not to touch anything unless they are told to do so. When using different chemicals it is very important that students know what to do when they are using them, and what to do if they are spilled on them for some reason. According to Miller-Wilson (n.d) students should ask plenty of questions, make sure they understand the experiment before entering the lab, and read the entire lab experiment before starting in order to maintain a safe environment during labs.

After watching the video, I see that misconceptions are a way that students perceive something based on their experiences. According to Harvard University (n.d) based on our particular life experiences, we develop naïve theories about everything we come into contact with. But our brains take lots of shortcuts along the way—we look for patterns and quickly jump to conclusions, and this emphasis on efficiency costs us accuracy. This is how most students have misconceptions about the concepts that are being taught. It shows a lot about how they think and process the information that is given to them. Teacher should address misconceptions of students in a way that does not go right out and tell them that they are wrong. Teachers should provide students with ways to understand their misconceptions. Hands on learning activities are a great way to help students take control of their own learning, and better understand the concepts being taught.

One misconception that a lot of people in our society have today is that good works can get you into Heaven. Even some so-called Christians believe that if you are good, and go to church regularly that they will get to go to heaven. We know that those misconceptions are not true. The Bible states, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Esphesians 2:8-9, English Standard Version). We know that is only through us accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior that we get to live an eternal life with Him in Heaven.
